Solar & mobile power
RV solar producing less power? What to record before a Calgary service visit
Low RV solar output? Gather controller readings, equipment details and symptom notes before booking mobile power diagnostics in Calgary.
BlueBeaver RV Service ·Start with what changed
If your RV solar system seems to be producing less power, describe the change before requesting replacement parts. Did the problem begin suddenly, after storage, or after adding equipment? Is the battery running down earlier, or is the concern mainly a lower reading on the display? For a mobile solar diagnostic request around Calgary, a short timeline helps the team understand what you need assessed. You do not need to identify the failed component before booking.
Save a reading and its context
Take a screenshot of your controller’s normal status screen, including any displayed warning or error. Record the time, weather and nearby shade. Victron lists cloud cover, shading and seasonal sun angle among the reasons for reduced solar yield. A reading taken beside a building on an autumn morning is not directly comparable to one from an open summer campsite. Share observations from normal use; do not move the RV or climb onto the roof just to reproduce the problem.
Include history, not just one watts reading
If your existing monitoring app provides history, include recent daily results with their dates. Victron distinguishes daily solar energy, recorded in watt-hours, from the highest power reading, recorded in watts. Its history screen can also show recorded errors. These describe different aspects of operation, so keep the labels visible in screenshots. Victron also explains that a full battery can cause the charger to reduce or stop its charging current normally. A low reading alone therefore does not establish that a panel has failed.
Identify the installed equipment
Send the RV year, make and model, plus the solar controller brand and model if known. Add battery type, capacity and model from existing paperwork or a safely accessible label. Include panel specifications from the installation invoice if available, and mention whether shore power, a generator or an alternator charger was connected when you noticed the issue. If the information is missing, say so. Photos of accessible displays and existing installation records are more useful than guesses about the system size.
Describe your power use and service goal
Explain how you use the RV and whether that has changed: longer stays without hookups, new appliances, or different travel habits can be important context for the appointment. Separate an existing fault from a request for more off-grid capacity. A diagnostic visit and a solar upgrade estimate answer different questions. Ask the team to confirm the planned assessment, access requirements and any charges before work. Recommendations should reflect the installed equipment and findings rather than a guaranteed output based only on a chat message.
Prepare access and keep the findings
Include the service address, gate instructions and the location of accessible controller displays. Leave electrical measurements, covers, live wiring and protective settings to the technician; do not bypass a shutdown or change charging settings to collect information. After the visit, keep the findings, completed work and any follow-up recommendations with the RV service record. Choose Power monitoring & system diagnostics using the booking link below, and include your screenshots and symptom timeline. BlueBeaver will review your request and confirm the visit and scope.
